A Free Taste...

Even under the hot sun, an October chill was in the morning air. The conditions of the Arizona autumn were still far more tolerable when compared to the frozen tundra of the northern states. Many in places like Colorado and Montana wished they could be in the warm, moderate Arizona sun, which tempered the chill of the fall and created a nice warm climate devoid of any frost.

But those northern states were not in that Arizona sun, they were cold and shivering in the early snows of their own October chills. Despite this warmth, many of the native Arizonians wore coats this morning. It was only sixty degrees out, but they were shivering and putting on coats and sweatshirts. Even in the land of the sun, people still felt cold in the fall.

The squat buildings of Phoenix barely broke the skyline of the city. An urban landscape with a mountain or two out on the edges; the east side of Phoenix was a quiet and still on that morning. Some pumpkins were on front porches and front yards. Halloween was coming and its ghoulish decorations were in every neighborhood, especially this one.

A man in a environmental suit, with looks akin to powered armor. The brownish suit is coated thickly with the red martian sand, and clearly the man is taller than a normal human, almost twice the height of a average human, his environmental suit giving him the look of a gridiron linebacker, but that isn't what catches my eye and causes me to take pause; his helmet, shoulders and back are covered with antlers. Not small two or three pointed antlers, but the antlers of well over a dozen bull elk, each of their six or seven points stained with red. Not a martian red, but the other kind you see on the Dust.
This man doesn't carry a gun, but that only frightens me even more.
Its a long way back to the dome.
